STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Led by an even-par 72 from sophomore Chloe Howard, the Georgia State women’s golf team shot a second round 308 to move into 10th place following two days of the 26th annual John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Country Club.
Howard made four birdies during the second round to move up into a tie for 22nd at 8-over par.
South Florida was the lone team to break 300 on Monday, shooting a 5-over 293 and stands in a tie with Murray State for first place at 20-over par. Oral Roberts is in third place at 27-over par, with Florida Gulf Coast in fourth place at 29-over. Albany rounds out the top five at 30-over par.
Jacksonville State’s Paula Vega shot an even-par 72 and holds the 36-hole lead at 1-over par. South Florida’s Natalia Villavicencio and Murray State’s Linette Holmslykke are tied for second place at 2-over par, with Albany’s Caroline
“I thought we played a lot better today,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “We made a lot more birdies than yesterday which helped, but we still made a few too many big numbers to have a really good score. I feel like our team is on the verge of a really good round and hopefully, we can put that together on Tuesday.”
Junior Harmanprit Kaur added a second round 77 and is tied for 33rd at 11-over par, while sophomore Petra Duran is tied for 35th at 13-over par following a 79. Freshman Maria Blasco is tied for 52nd at 17-over par following an 80, while freshman Alejandra Ayala shot 87 and stands in 87th place at 38-over par.
Senior Jemima Gregson is competing as an individual this week and shot 89 on Monday to stand in a tie for 80th at 29-over par.
Following this week’s tournament, Georgia State will open the Sun Belt Conference Championship April 15-17, at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
