Happy Holidays Panther Family!
The draft of this month’s State of the Panthers began last week after watching our epic comeback against Alabama, one that I know all of us will remember. With wins against Georgia and Alabama, we have already experienced a great season, but I know Coach Hunter and the players have much more to accomplish. We return to the Sports Arena Wednesday night versus Chattanooga, then play several more over winter break before Sun Belt Conference play begins in January. The schedule and ticket information is on GeorgiaStateSports.com.
If you cannot make it to the arena, be sure to download our new app and listen to the games on your phone. It takes less than 30 seconds! Plus, this the best quality broadcast, and who doesn’t want immediate access to the voice, Dave Cohen?!
Speaking of basketball, we are certainly pleased with the start Coach Hill’s team on the women’s side, almost knocking off Georgia Tech in a fast-paced game last week. In one of several home games over the next couple of weeks, we host Kennesaw State on Thursday night. Once SBC play begins, this will be the first year of mirror scheduling for basketball, so to quench your basketball thirst, we will host a game almost every Thursday night and Saturday afternoon until March.
I thank everyone for your support this football season. No one is more disappointed in our on-field results than our team and coaches, but we are making great progress on building a program and not just looking for a quick fix. We are committed to the long-term development of a consistent winning program. We are a very young football team that will only continue to mature and improve. The next nine months are very important for our football team and I believe in the process because work wins championships! We know four dates for the 2019 football season, so go ahead and put these on your calendar: August 31 (@ Tennessee); September 7 (Furman); September 14 (@ Western Michigan); and October 19 (Army).
We continue to make great progress on the Football Operations suite at the stadium. As we push for greater competitive success, facilities play a major part in that strategic goal. We will share photographs and videos throughout the winter on GeorgiaStateSports.com. Likewise, when we have actual concepts of the new Convocation Center, we will share those as well on our website.
Finally, year-end giving is the lifeblood of all non-profits, and giving to the Panther Athletic Club makes us no different. Hundreds of kids in our program benefit from your generosity. If you’re looking for a stocking stuffer gift for the little ones in your life, a membership in Pounce’s Kids Club is a great idea and one that has a year of benefits for future Panthers. Again, go to the website for more information on either program.
Proud to be a Panther,
Director of Athletics
