Dear Georgia State Fans,

April is upon us, which means golf (including in Augusta), spring football practice, baseball, softball, beach volleyball finales, track meets, tennis tournaments, and, ultimately final exams.  It also means the fourth installment of my State of the Panthers, so please enjoy.

Question:  What do Duke, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kansas, Louisville, Florida State, Auburn, South Carolina, Notre Dame and West Virginia (to name a few) have in common?

“If you don’t get goose bumps when you walk into this place, then you don’t have a pulse,” Don Sutton said this about Augusta National.  Many Panther Athletic Club members had the same sentiment last week when they walked into Georgia State Stadium for the first time to pick their football seats for the 2017 season.  Construction continues to move along nicely and we are very appreciative of our external team of Heery and JE Dunn and our internal GSU team from design and construction, legal affairs, Panther Dining, and GSU Police.  Additional tours for selecting seats continues this month, so look for your opportunity.

Our initial Fan Council meeting was a huge success.  Many great ideas were discussed with several due for follow up at our next meeting on Wednesday, May 10. It is also a great opportunity for you to witness “Big D” (Spirit Coach Darryl Lyons) teach the fight song! Please come join us and let your voice be heard.

As a reminder, our PAC Spring Tour begins this Monday, April 10 at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, and follows with April 11 (Eagle’s Landing), April 12 (SweetWater Brewery), April 13 (Main Event on Cobb Parkway), April 17 (Heritage in Sandy Springs), April 20 (Georgia State Stadium), and April 21 (Ghost Coast Distillery in Savannah).  Registration information is included here.  The cost is only $10 and it is a great way to meet our coaches and staff, learn about the excitement around GSU Athletics and network with other Panthers.

Finally, the answer:  Schools Georgia State has defeated in the 2016-2017 athletics year.

We appreciate your support – both in time and resources – to help facilitate the transformational opportunity that participating in college athletics provides our student-athletes.  We do not take this for granted.  Please do not forget to renew your Panther Athletic Club membership or football season tickets. The renewal deadline is May 1.

Many Thanks,

Charlie Cobb
Director of Athletics
