ATLANTA- Georgia State volleyball practiced Tuesday morning to kick off their 2017 preseason. The Panthers have 17 days to prepare for their first regular season test, August 25th, against Rutgers. The match will kick off the East Carolina Invitational, in which GSU will also face ECU and William and Mary.

Entering her fourth season as head coach for the Panthers is Sally Polhamus, who is joined this season by first year assistants, Ashley Beyer and Taylor McColskey.

Georgia State welcomes in seven freshman to an already young seventeen-player roster. Four of the nine veteran Panthers are sophomores, and the other five returning letter winners are all juniors. Carley Eiken, a junior transfer student from Armstrong State, also joins GSU this season.

“It’s a very exciting experience and I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity to play at the next level”, said Eiken. “I can’t wait to develop as a player and a person and hopefully make an impact on this team.”

Sally Polhamus was extremely pleased with what she saw from her young team today. “So proud of our eight newcomers today”, said Polhamus. “Our returners did an excellent job of leading by example, and our newcomers just got after it.” Coach continued by saying, “every drill was better than the last, and that’s all you can ask for as a coach.”

An exhibition match against the Mercer Bears will highlight the Panther preseason. The Match will be held at the Georgia State Sports Arena on August 18 at noon. The team’s first regular season action at home will come four weeks later as the Panthers host Davidson, South Carolina State, and Wofford as part of the GSU Invitational on September 16-17.
