ATLANTA- Georgia State volleyball is headed to Birmingham, Alabama for another non-conference tournament. They will face University of Alabama (5-1) and host UAB (3-3) Friday. The Panthers will finish play on Saturday against ETSU (5-1).
This weekend Panthers look for their first victory against Alabama. The Crimson Tide has won each of the 14 meetings. Alabama is led by head coach Lindsey Devine in her first season with the Tide. Devine coached at ETSU for 16-years, as its all time winningest coach.
Host UAB also leads the Georgia State head to head 3-12. The two squads have met twice under Georgia State head coach Sally Polhamus once in 2014 and again in 2017. The Panthers fell in both matches 1-3. After winning 13 games last season, the most in the UAB program since 2013, the Blazers welcome six new girls to the 2019 squad.
The series between ETSU is knotted at three games a piece. This weekend the Panthers will look to take the edge. Middle blocker Kaela Massey led the Buccaneers last weekend and earned SoCon Offensive Player of the Week honors.
For the Panthers Meisheia Griffin notched 15 blocks in just six matches. She leads the Sun Belt Conference in blocking. Džemila Hadžić and Morgan Hash lead the Georgia State offense. The pair accumulated 88 combined kills in the first six contests. Additionally, Hadžić added 10 serving aces, good for tenth in the Sun Belt Conference.
