ATLANTA -- Angela Alonso has been named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week after a record setting performance last week. The junior earned first place with a 4:54.23 mile, blowing away all Sun Belt competition and helping GSU to the team's best finish since the 2016 season.

Alonso headlined Georgia State's performance at the 2019 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championship Monday and Tuesday as she took home first place in the women's mile.

Alonso's time of 4:54.23 broke the GSU indoor record. She became the 20th Sun Belt champion for GSU since joining the conference in 2013.

The Panthers placed fifth in team points with 64 points. It's the best finish for GSU since the team tied for fourth in 2016. Georgia State finished ahead of Georgia Southern to earn a Rivalry Series point for the Panthers.
