­NEW ORLEANS-Georgia State sophomore D’Marcus Simonds led the Panthers to a pair of key home wins and earned Sun Belt Player-of-the-Week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Simonds earned his second award of the year and the third of his career with wins over Sun Belt preseason favorite UT Arlington and Texas State last week while averaging 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals in two games while shooting 21-of-40 from the floor.

The sophomore opened the week collecting his second-straight double-double and fourth of the season with 29 points and 10 rebounds in an 81-75 win against the Mavericks. He dished out five assists, swiped five steals and blocked two shots while shooting 13-of-27 from the floor in 39 minutes.

On Saturday, Simonds finished with 20 points, three assists and a pair of rebounds while shooting 8-of-13 from the floor in a 54-50 win over the Bobcats. Simonds scored 10 of his 20 points in the final 3:36 of the game to spark a 10-2 run and lead GSU from down four to up four.

For the season, Simonds is averaging a Sun Belt-best 21.3 points per game, while grabbing 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

Georgia State will return to action on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. at Arkansas State.
