ATLANTA - Georgia State weathered the elements and the competition to get to 6-0 on the season. The Panthers swept Austin Peay 5-0 before outlasting Mercer 3-2 as part of The Day of Duals at the GSU Beach Volleyball Complex.

After going 4-0 last weekend at St. Augustine Beach, GSU defended its home court Tuesday in front of a rain-soaked crowd.

"Today was fantastic," head coach Beth Van Fleet said. "We love competing at home and despite the ominous weather, we had a great turnout. Austin Peay is a new program, but played like they've been competing for a few years. Mercer always challenges us and today was no different. We love the rivalry and appreciate the class and the sportsmanship that Mercer displays. We are especially grateful to our facilities crew, sports communications and sports medical staff who worked all day to put on such a fun event as well as all the other staff and fans who stood in the rain tonight to cheer us on."

The Panthers made light work of the Austin Peay Governors in the schools’ first-ever meeting. GSU has not lost to the Mercer Bears in program history and holds a 9-0 record all-time.

In the day’s earlier matches, UNC Wilmington swept Austin Peay and Jacksonville State. Mercer went 1-1 with a 4-1 victory over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

Georgia State heads out west to compete in UCLA’s East vs. West Tournament. The Panthers get back on the sand Saturday at 2:30 p.m. to take on Cal Poly.
