ATLANTA- Georgia State beach volleyball is set to embark on the 2017 fall season. The Panthers will open up a four-date fall slate this Friday with a dual at UAB. This summer the NCAA passed legislation allowing collegiate beach volleyball teams to compete on four dates in the fall.

“Collegiate beach volleyball’s continued growth is evident in the additional competition dates each program will play this fall”, said Panther head coach Beth Van Fleet. “In the past, Georgia State has competed once as a team in November and then not again until March. These opportunities will work as a diagnostic tool to help us figure out partner chemistry and areas of growth and strength.”

Following the UAB match, the Panthers will travel to Columbia for a four-team tournament hosted by South Carolina on October 14th. Georgia State is tentatively scheduled to participate in an event on October 28th in Gulf Shores, Alabama. GSU will return to Georgia to close out the fall season at LakePoint in Emerson.

“We are excited to face different systems and test our skill set starting this Friday at UAB”, said Van Fleet. “The following weekend we head to South Carolina for a four school tournament and wrap up the fall schedule at Rally against five or six other programs. We are hoping to see many CCSA teams as well as strong competition from other east coast programs.”

The Panthers welcome five freshman and three graduate students to the 2017-2018 roster. Georgia State is coming off two straight twenty-win seasons.
