Georgia State Beach swept two duals and did not lose a game on day one of the GSU Diggin’ Duals tournament. Ten different Panthers won a match on the day, the pairings of Annika and Teegan Van Gunst and Tiffany Creamer and Brooke Weiner each earned two wins.

The Panthers are now 14-5 on the season, and 4-0 at the GSU Beach Complex. State will look to go a perfect 6-0 at home in 2018 taking on UL Monroe and Mercer tomorrow afternoon.

Georgia State started things off on the right foot with a clean sweep over Jacksonville State. Allie Elson and Rebekah Brodbeck won in the four flight, quickly followed by Maddie Gordon and Ashley Bauchert winning in the five. Freshmen Meagan McCall and Mattie Johnson improved to a perfect 5-0 on the year for the Panthers in the three spot with a 21-13, 21-17 win.

In the afternoon session the Panthers would get out to an early lead over the Ospreys thanks to quick wins from Amie Held and Kate Novack in the fours, and Eden Hawes and Ashley McGinn in the five position. Olivia Stasevich and Georgia Johnson would close the match out with a two-set win in the threes to give State a clean sweep.

GSU will be back in the sand tomorrow looking for another pair of victories. The Panthers will take on ULM tentatively scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and Mercer at 5:00 p.m. Tomorrow's match times are not set, and play will begin fifteen minutes after the previous dual is complete.

The weekend finale will be highlighted by the Senior Day celebrations fifteen minutes before the match against Mercer. Seniors Allie Elson and Jessie Swaney, as well as graduate students Tiffany Creamer, Amie Held, Annika Van Gunst, and Teegan Van Gunst will be honored before taking the sand for the final time in a home dual.
