Baton Rouge- Georgia State beach volleyball went 2-0 Sunday at the Battle on the Bayou on the final day of the regular season. The Panthers defeated University of New Orleans 5-0 in the morning session and overcame a 2-0 deficit to knock off TCU 3-2 in afternoon play.
Kate Novack and Amie Held would get the Panthers off to a hot start with a quick two set win in the four spot over New Orleans. Allie Elson and Maddie Gordon would make the dual score 2-0 winning a three-set battle in the five position. State’s top three pairs would all win in straight sets to sweep the Privateers 5-0.
In the afternoon session, TCU would take the first two points of the dual winning on courts four and five. Olivia Stasevich and Georgia Johnson kickstarted the GSU comeback with a 21-11, 24-22 win in the three flight. The Panthers would tie the dual score at 2-2 thanks to a 21-18, 21-17 win from Teegan and Annika Van Gunst in the one flight.
After dropping the first set, Brooke Weiner and Tiffany Creamer rallied to win the second set 21-19. The pair charged to an early lead in the third set and cruised to a 15-11 win, giving the Panthers a 3-2 victory in the dual. The win also gave GSU a 2-1 advantage in the season series with TCU.
The Panthers will end the regular season with a 22-10 record. The 22 victories are the second most in program history. Georgia State will be back in the sand next weekend at the CCSA Tournament in Emerson, Georgia. GSU will look to win the conference championship and earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years.
