ATLANTA- The No. 18 ranked Sandy Panthers are back on the road this weekend, this time headed to the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama for UAB’s March to May Tournament. GSU will take on Tulane and Southern Mississippi Saturday and face Houston Baptist and Austin Peay on Sunday.

Georgia State enters the weekend with a 4-4 record through two weeks of play. The Panthers have been led by Georgia Johnson and Eden Hawes who have a 5-3 record with all matches being played in the number one flight. The duo was 3-1 last weekend at TCU’s Horned Frog Challenge.

Saturday’s opener will see the second meeting in a week between GSU and Tulane (5-6). The Panthers got the best of the Green Wave 3-2 last week in a tightly contested dual in Fort Worth. In the afternoon affair, State will face CCSA newcomer Southern Mississippi (2-7) for the first time in program history. The 2019 marks the inaugural season for the Eagles.

On Sunday the Panthers will battle Houston Baptist (3-1) before taking on Austin Peay (0-0). GSU took down both opponents last season, defeating Austin Peay 5-0 last season in a home dual, and besting Houston Baptist 3-2 in Boca Raton.

The Panthers hope that this will not be their only trip to the Alabama beaches this spring as the 2019 NCAA Tournament will be held at Gulf Shores May 3-5.
