ATLANTA- Georgia State beach volleyball’s Kate Novack and Brooke Weiner have been named recipients of the second annual AVCA Top Flight Award, as announced by the association Friday morning. The title is meant to recognize “excellent performance all over the country and across all flights”. The new award is given to pairs that have won at least 75% of their matches in a given flight.

It is the second time winning the award for Weiner who earned the inaugural Top Flight Award with Tiffany Creamer following the 2018 season.

Noavck and Weiner earned the honor delivering a 23-6 record in the three flight for GSU. The duo finished the season on a 14-match winning streak that included six wins over top-20 competition.

The streak began on March 29 as the duo downed pairs from UNCW and Arizona State at the GSU Diggin’ Duals event. The pair would turn in two more victories on Senior Day; March 30 after Weiner was honored with her fellow soon to be graduates.

The next weekend Novack and Weiner continued to send back all competition at the Seminole Beach Bash in Tallahassee. Brooke and Kate took out the three pair from FIU, FAU, and Florida State- all top-20 programs. The domination would roll over to the final week of the regular season as the pair downed opposition from Carson Newman, Lincoln Memorial, and Austin Peay in two sets.

Brooke and Kate took the CCSA Tournament by storm, winning all four of their matches over three days. The pair took out Tulane and South Carolina in pool play to help GSU advance to the quarterfinals. In the round of eight, Novack and Weiner defeated FAU’s threes in a convincing two-set win, 21-10, 21-15. The pair capped off their season with a win over top-seeded Florida State in Georgia State’s near semifinal upset of the Seminoles. The 4-0 weekend earned the duo a spot on the CCSA All-Tournament Team.

The pair turned in a team best .793 winning percentage, helping the Panthers to a 24-12 record on the year. Individually Novack posted a 25-9 record, earning two wins with sophomore Kaylee McClure. Weiner went a team best 28-8, notching three wins with Kelly Dorn and two with Anna Rantala. The 28 wins lifted Weiner to 92 career victories, making her the winningest player in Georgia State history.
