HONOLULU, Hawaii - Georgia State dropped a pair of games to open the season Thursday night at the Hawaii Paradise Classic in Honolulu.

Game 1:

Saint Mary’s handed GSU its first loss of the season Thursday, a 7-5 defeat at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The Gaels scored seven runs on 10 hits.

Caitlin Ray went 1-for-4 at the plate for the Panthers with a two-RBI double.

Down 7-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, GSU scored a run on a fielder’s choice before Ray’s big, two-out hit brought the Panthers to within just two runs at 7-5.

GSU was unable to get the big hit to complete the comeback, however, and Saint Mary’s held on to improve to 1-0 on the season while GSU fell to 0-1.

Arden Jobe was 1-for-4 with a double and Reagan Morgan went 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a double. Alyssa Brumelow was 1-for-1 with a single and two walks.

Six Panthers made their GSU debuts in the contest, including freshman Olivia Davis who earned the start at second base.

Game 2:

Georgia State faced host Hawaii in its second game of the season. The Rainbow Wahine got the 8-0 win in five innings.

Hawaii got things going early with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first.

Hawaii would tack on three more runs in the fourth inning to lead 6-0 before finishing the game with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Caitlin Ray recorded the lone hit for the Panthers in the contest.

The Panthers (0-2) will face Fresno State Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
