ATLANTA- Georgia State volleyball and beach volleyball squads earn recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom. Both teams received American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, announced on Monday morning.

The award, launched in 1992-1993 academic year,  recognizes teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.3. Both of our teams performed well above this requirement. The beach volleyball team finished the academic year with a 3.73 average GPA. While the court squad ended the spring semester with a 3.51 GPA.

“The effort and care that the Georgia State beach volleyball student-athletes invest into the classroom is simply inspiring. It is not always fun and at times can be overwhelming, but these young women enjoy the challenge,” said Beth Van Fleet, the head coach of the beach volleyball program.

The beach volleyball team earns this honor for the sixth consecutive year. Yet, they continue to push themselves academically. This semester marked the first time in program history the beach volleyball Panthers posted a back-to-back 3.7+ GPA.

The court volleyball team is being recognized for the third straight year.

“We love that earning the AVCA academic award is always a part of our player’s list of goals. Their ownership in their academics shows their drive and determination both on and off the volleyball court,” said Sally Polhamus the head coach of the court volleyball team.
