BOONE, NC – Georgia State (16-30, 5-12) dropped the doubleheader against App State (22-22,3-12) in opening day of the weekend series in Boone, N.C. The Panthers are currently on a four-game losing streak and will look to end it on Sunday against the Mountaineers.
Ashton Schroyer went 4 for 7 on the night including two stolen bases, a double and a triple. The freshmen also tallied two runs and a rbi.
In game one, the Panthers jumped in front early in the 1
st with three runs.
Emily Brown made it on an error, stole second and advanced to third on Schroyer's double. This set up runners in scoring position for
Chloe Nadler who hit a single and made it to third on an error that also helped score both runs.
App State came in hot as they rattled off six hits, including a home run, and scored seven runs in the bottom of the first.
Down 7 - 3 Brown came to the plate and smashed a rbi triple and later scored on a wild pitched to close the gap 7-5.
Bailee Richardson homered in the seventh to tie it up but the Mountaineers would answer with one of their own for a walk off home run.
Down 2-1 in the second game Schroyer came to the plate and hit a rbi triple that tied it up for the Panthers. She then scored on a strikeout throw to first to put the Panthers in the lead.
The lead didn't last long as the Mountaineers scored six runs on six hits in the third, including three doubles.
The Panthers tried to make a comeback when
Maia Mumpfield, who was 2 for 3 at the plate, smashed a rbi double but would fall 8-4.
Elle Doolittle (7-9) was given both losses on the night after giving up 14 hits and eight runs on the night.
The series finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
