Panthers Return to Florida for Bubly Invitational This Weekend

ATLANTA – Returning to the state of Florida for the second time this season, the Georgia State softball team will play five games this weekend as a part of the Bubly Invitational hosted by No. 4-ranked Florida in Gainesville, Fla.

Georgia State (5-8) has won three of its last four games, but will face a tough challenge this weekend, including a pair of games against the Gators. It is a part of a stretch of four games against SEC opponents over a seven-game stretch.

The three-day event gets underway on Friday as the Panthers face Tennessee State (6-7) at 10:30 a.m. Georgia State will also face Florida (16-1) at 3:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Georgia State will face off against Sun Belt Conference foe Coastal Carolina (7-6) at 3:30 p.m., in a non-conference game.

The event will close out on Sunday with the Panthers facing Tennessee State at 9 a.m., followed by a rematch with Florida at 2 p.m.

Georgia State is led by reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Bailee Richardson who is batting .442 with six home runs, 18 RBI, and a .977 slugging percentage.

Under first year head coach Angie Nicholson, the Panthers have shown to be a threat on the base paths swiping 29 steals in the first 13 games. The Panthers are coming off a tough loss on Wednesday night to No. 21 Auburn.

In the circle, Julia Allen has led the pitching staff with a 1-0 record and 2.80 ERA in three starts. Emily Buck has led the team in innings pitched (24.2) and combined for a 2-3 record with a 3.41 ERA.

Following the games this weekend, Georgia State will head to Athens on Wednesday to face Georgia at 6 p.m.
