It's hard to imagine that any football player enjoys preseason camp and two-a-day practices, but you won't hear Georgia State's Michael Davis complain one bit.
As the Panthers continue preparations for their encore season, Tuesday marked their first day of two-a-days, with workouts at 8:15 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. at the GSU Practice Complex.
Davis, a sophomore offensive lineman from Lithonia, Ga., is one of the original Panthers who reported in August of 2009. After practicing that entire fall, he sustained a knee injury last August that required reconstructive surgery.
After months of rehabilitation and then limited, non-contact practices in the spring, Davis is definitely ready for full-speed action.
"I was more nervous in the days leading up to practice. Once I got out here, it was just football," said Davis of finally returning to the field in full pads.
"Probably the biggest thing I've been working on is to trust my knee," he continued. "I have to work on pushing off as hard as I can, bending my knees and keeping my pads low. Those are things I have to work through mentally and physically."
The 6-3, 295-pounder is competing for playing time at both guard and center.
Off the field, Davis is an outstanding student in Georgia State's Robinson College of Business who earned President's List recognition last spring. This summer, he served an internship with a commercial real estate firm.
He also serves as President of the football team's Leadership Council.
