ATLANTA--Georgia State football standout Kalan Jenkins added another academic honor to his already impressive resume when he was named to the 14th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team, announced by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA).
In addition to recognition on the 58-member Academic All-Star Team, Jenkins is one of 12 finalists selected for the 11th Annual FCS ADA's $5,000 postgraduate scholarship. Two student-athletes will receive postgraduate scholarships during the Association's annual membership meeting held in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention, being held in Dallas, Texas, June 25-28, 2012.
Jenkins, a senior from Midlothian, Texas, was a two-year starter on the GSU defensive line, moving to noseguard in 2011 after playing defensive end during the Panthers' inaugural season. He maintains a 3.94 grade point average in Exercise Science and plans to attend graduate school to pursue physical therapy.
He has also been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District team by CoSIDA, one of the first two such honorees for GSU football, and he was the Panthers' nominee for the National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Awards.
