ATLANTA--As part of Georgia State basketball coach Ron Hunter's involvement with Samaritan's Feet, GSU student-athletes and coaches, including members of the football team, spent Monday's Martin Luther King holiday giving back to the Atlanta community.
Last Thursday, Hunter hosted his fifth annual barefoot game, coaching in his bare feet as his Panthers defeated UNC Wilmington before a season-high crowd of 2,698 at the GSU Sports Arena. The game resulted in more than $2,000 of donations for Samaritan's Feet.
On Monday, the good works continued as Hunter, his staff ands players were joined by members of the GSU football and women's track/cross country programs in a local outreach effort.
At the Blank Family YMCA in Atlanta, approximately 200 local children in need received new shoes through Samaritan's Feet as GSU Athletics partnered with the Blank Family YMCA, After School All-Stars and City of Refuge.
The GSU student-athlete volunteers interacted with the children and washed their feet, as part of Samaritan's Feet practice, and then presented each child with new shoes and socks.
