Former Georgia State outside linebacker Jake Muasau has signed a free agent contract with the New York Giants.
Muasau was invited to participate in team's rookie mini-camp last weekend and impressed enough to earn a contract. He will now go through the team's offseason program and mandatory mini-camp next month and then report to training camp at the end of July with an opportunity to earn a spot on the 53-man roster or eight-man practice squad.
Muasau, from Sierra Vista, Ariz., was GSU's Most Valuable Defensive Player for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. The former junior college standout at Phoenix College is the Panthers' career leader in tackles for loss (16.5) and interceptions (3), along with 106 career tackles, seven sacks, four fumble recoveries and four forced fumbles.
After just two seasons of play, the Georgia State football program will have two former players in NFL training camps this summer. In addition to Muasau, defensive lineman Christo Bilukidi was a sixth-round draft choice of the Oakland Raiders.
