ATLANTA--Former Kentucky defensive lineman Nermin Delic, an all-state prep player at Northwest Whitfield High School in Dalton, Ga., intends to transfer to Georgia State, head coach Bill Curry announced.
The 6-4, 265-pound Delic is expected to enroll for Georgia State's summer session in June.
After signing with Kentucky in 2010, Delic earned playing time as a true freshman, seeing action in eight games for the Wildcats. He recorded five tackles and had a quarterback sack that caused a fumble against Vanderbilt. He was injured in 2011 and did not play.
As a senior at Northwest Whitfield, Delic was a first-team all-state defensive lineman in Class AAAA by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He collected 79 tackles, eight quarterback sacks, seven additional tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries and two blocked punts, one of which was returned for a touchdown. The Region 7-AAAA Defensive Player of the Year also played tight end and caught four passes for 55 yards and two touchdowns.
Delic was listed as the nation's No. 26 tight end by ESPN.com and one of the nation's top-50 tight ends by Scout.com.
"This is another great addition for our program," said Curry. "We are thrilled to add an outstanding player and person like Nermin Delic, especially at a position of need."
Delic is a native of Bosnia who moved to the U.S. with his family at age six.
