Football Veterans, Newcomers on Campus for Summer Session

ATLANTA – With the start of the 2013 football season just around the corner, the majority of the Georgia State football team is on campus for summer classes, which begin Monday.

The new and returning Panthers underwent physicals and completed administrative procedures Sunday.

Twenty-two scholarship newcomers, including 20 freshmen and two transfers, are enrolling for the first time.

Along with those signees announced in February, the Panthers have added an additional scholarship newcomer in junior college offensive lineman A.J. Kaplan, who transferred from Palomar College in California. The 6-4, 295-pounder hails from Las Vegas, Nev., where he attended Faith Lutheran High School.

Playing its first season in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and Sun Belt Conference, Georgia State opens the 2013 season by hosting Samford on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Dome. Official fall practice begins Aug. 3.
